2017 FDDA Premier League Grand Final

FDDA Premier League Grand Final

What a fantastic way to end a great season in the first year of the Fremantle Premier League, the top 8 players over the season battled it out for the title and the games were brilliant.

The night started with the seeded quarter finals and the top two seeds kicked things off at each side of the draw. Kim came from 5-4 down to win the last two legs against Pete to claim victory and move into the semi final, an early scare for the top seed. Pegs of 101 and 100 from Kim and a 121 from Pete in a high quality match with both players just under the 90 average.

Brad showed his intentions right from the off with some excellent finishing against the unlucky Mick on an off night for him, the game closer than the scoreline suggests.

Tim Pusey followed Kim Lewis into the semi’s in the same fashion coming from 5-4 down against Lewis Kirk with a 4 shot deciding leg being the difference in a tight encounter, 4 180’s and a 113 peg from Tim and a 180 from Lewis.

Dave Charnock and Damo Heta battled it out next and it was very tight early on with the pair sharing the first 4 legs before Dave moved in front with 5 and 4 shot legs to go 4-2 up. Damo replied with a 4 shot leg to take the next and reduced the deficit to one, but 180’s in each of the next two legs from Dave saw him through to the semi finals 6-3. Both players averaging over 90 in that one.

On to the semi finals and it was the experience of Kim Lewis and Brad Austen that showed through as they beat Tim Pusey and Dave Charnock respectively to set up a final between the two top seeds from the whole season. The first semi final Kim beating Tim 6-1 with the latter never really getting going and Kim’s finishing seeing him progress to the final. The second semi final between Brad and Dave was nip and tuck early on with the score at 2-2 after 4 legs, Brad held throw to move ahead and then a 106 out shot with Dave having missed doubles was the turning point. Brad took control and closed the game out to set up a final clash with Kim.

Wow, wow, wow what a treat the spectators got in the Dalmatinac Club for the Grand Final of the first Fremantle Premier League. The top two seeds battled for 13 legs to decide the eventual winner and inaugural champion, the game had everything. Brad raced into an early lead going 3-1 up after the first 4 legs, only for Kim to hit back with the next three legs including pegs of 128 and 119 to move 4-3 in front.

Kim won the next as well in 5 shots to take a two leg advantage and required just two more legs to be crowned champion. Brad was not giving it up, a 4 shot game with a 118 out followed by a 5 shot leg squared things up at 5-5. What happened next was unbelievable, Kim starting the 11th leg with a maximum followed by another to leave 141, the crowd watched on as the first dart hit the 60, the second the 57 and the third straight in double 12, 9 dart finish, fantastic, everyone on their feet to recognise the perfect leg, great stuff from the legend Kim Lewis.

We were not finished there however with the final being best of 13, Brad held his concentration admirably to win the 12th leg and take it to a decider. Kim had the advantage having won the bull and went first, leaving 30 after 5 shots only for Brad to go out in style with a 116 peg (57, 57, double 1) and take the title in 4 shots and become this year’s champion.

With 0.66 difference in the averages it really couldn’t of been any closer. Congratulations to Brad on his victory and commiseration to Kim on his runner up spot, the game was played in true spirit and was a great way to cap a wonderful season. See you all next year, bigger and better.

FDDA Premier League Catch Up Week 4 06.09.2017

With just one competitive fixture available in the final catch up week before finals next week, it was Tim Pusey taking on Graham Parker. Graham fighting to get into the top 8 being just a point behind Peter went into the game in good form after last week’s performance. However it was the increasingly reliable Pusey who flew out of the blocks with a 3 shot first leg which included a 180. Graham pegged him back to 1-1 with a 5 shot game and a 180 of his own but from then on it was an exhibition of finishing from Pusey, 84 on the bull and a 106 putting him 3-1 up. The 5th leg went to Tim in 5 then Graham got another back in the 6th with Tim closing out the game winning the 7th and 8th legs in a total of 10 shots to run out a 6-2 winner. 3 180’s from Tim and one for Graham. Tim 96.54, Graham 76.58. The result left Graham a point behind Peter confirming Pete’s place in next weeks finals, Graham will be first reserve should any of the top 8 be unavailable.

Season Round Up

It was Kim Lewis who finished in top spot and will take the number one seed position into next weeks Grand Final and the $200 prize for finishing top of the ladder, with Brad Austen runner up and Tim Pusey in third. Damon’s work commitments unfortunately resulted in him not completing his fixtures but he did amass enough points to finish 4th. Dave Charnock 5th, Lewis Kirk 6th, Mick Zdun 7th and Peter Sutton claiming the final qualifying spot in 8th. Graham Parker 9th, Matt Brown 10th, Steve Doherty 11th and Joe Salter 12th.

A total of 343 x 180’s were hit during the season with Tim Pusey taking top spot with 58.

Highest peg of the season went to Steve Doherty with a 164 out, Kim and Damon just behind with 160’s.

The highest average for the season was Damon with 92.19 season average from 34 games played (276 legs). A group season average of 77.82 for the 12 players shows the high quality of the games across the season, Damon taking top spot

Premier League Catch Up Week 3

The standard remained high as we move towards the players completing their fixtures. Tim Pusey registered the highest overall average of the week 93.43 for his two games, a 6-1 win against Brad with an average just shy of the 100, 99.88 and a draw with Graham 5-5 (Tim 89.37, Graham 85.15). Graham’s timing couldn’t be better having won two and drawn one to pick up 5 points on the night as he fights to nick the final qualifying spot from Pete.

Just a point separating the two players going into the final catch up week next Wednesday. With games against Damon and Tim next week for Graham there is surely some twists and turns to go before the final ladder positions are confirmed. Matt registered his highest average of the season with a win against Joe and a loss to Dave. Matt also hitting the highest peg of the week with a 138 out in the game against Joe.

Dave also scored his best average of the season in his final two games, 91.02 for the night with wins against Matt 6-3 and Brad 6-2 in the lead up to the finals. It was an off night for the usually ultra reliable Brad Austen as he lost all three games which throws it wide open at the top in the race for first position with Kim, Brad and Damon all in the hunt next week and having to play each other, it will be an interesting night. 10 180’s with Graham hitting 5 of those, Tim with 2 and one each for Joe, Brad and Matt.

The Grand Final lineup will be confirmed following completion of next weeks games, the seeding and quarter final line up will be announced on Thursday 7th September with the finals on Wednesday 13th September at the Dalmatinac Club in Spearwood, 7.30 start.

Premier League Week 22

In the final official game week of the season 8 matches played out which included 13 180’s, Tim with 6 of those and an overall average of 88.37 and two wins. Brad returned from state duty and a holiday to win 3 of his 4 games played and moves back into 2nd place on the ladder behind Kim in first place. Brad’s highlight of the evening a convincing 6-1 win against Kim with a 91.27 average. Kimmy recovered to better that average with a 98.97 in win against Graham by the same scoreline, 6-1. Graham registered two valuable points in draws with Mick and Steve as he chases down Peter for the final spot in the grand finals. Graham is 6 points behind Peter but with games in hand has a chance of grabbing the finals place with Peter having completed all of his games. Highest peg of week 22 went to Brad with a 141 out, another notable peg 120 from Brad and a 109 from Kim. The rest of the 180’s made up by Brad x 2, Mick x 2 (same leg), Steve, Kim and Dave.

Two catch up weeks will follow on the 30th August and 06th September to confirm the final ladder positions for the top 8 to battle it out in the Grand Final on Wednesday 13th September.

Premier League Catup Week 2 plus Rounds 20 and 21

Catch Up Week 2

With the state team still away it was a week of catch up fixtures with 6 of the 12 players in action. For the first time this season a player registered an overall average for the evening of over 100, well done Damon 100.30 for the night having played 3 matches, 23 legs in total. Averages of 103, 99.63 and 96.97 against Lewis, Peter and Joe respectively, great form. The pick of the evening’s games was between Damo (103.0) and Lewis (96.02), 6-4 to Damo with 2 180’s each, 121 peg from Damo and 103 for Lewis. The pick of the evening’s games was between Damo (103.0) and Lewis (96.02), 6-4 to Damo with 2 180’s each, 121 peg from Damo and 103 for Lewis. Two draws for Graham, the first with Peter in the battle for 8th spot and a place in the finals up for grabs. Pete led 4-2 only for Graham to win the next 3 to go 5-4 up, Pete winning the final leg in 5 shots to share the points. Nothing separating the two players in the averages with both 82+ and a 180 each.

Week 20

Well done to the WA State Team on their win at the Australian Championships, three of the four premier league representatives were back in action on week 20 Tim, Mick and Kimmy, with Brad staying over in Townsville for a bit of extra sun. Onto the games with some outstanding individual game performances on the night, the highlight being Damon’s 107.36 in 6-0 win against Tim, 7 180’s shared between the two of them, Damo 4 and Timmy 3.

Kim Lewis wasn’t far behind with a thumping 104 average in a 6-2 win against Dave (88.15) including 2 180’s for Kim and the top peg of the night a tremendous 160 out. Kim followed that up with two more wins, 6-1 against Graham and a 6-4 win against the in form Damon Heta. Pegs of 107 and 106 for Damo and a 116 for Kim in a high quality match. Tim Pusey registered a 6-2 win over Lewis with a 93.02 average and other ton plus finishes for Lewis 105, Dave 114 and Kim 120.

A total of 18 180’s on the night a good return from the 9 players in action, Kim leading the way with 6 closely followed by Damo with 5.

Week 21

Work commitments and holidays resulted in only three competitive fixtures in week 21 as the season draws to a close and the battle for ladder position hots up. Lewis won his game against Steve, 6-3 which included 3 180’s from Lewis. Kim beat Matt 6-1 and Peter beat Steve in the final game of this week, with some good pegs of 106 and 114.

With players returning for the final game week (22) next week, normal service will be resumed. There will be two further catch up weeks for players to play their remaining fixtures before the grand final line up is announced following completion of the matches on September 06th. The top 8 players will qualify for the Grand Finals to be played on 13th September, 7.30 start, so get down and watch the action and see who will be crowned the inaugural FDDA Premier League Champion for 2017.
